Solo work

A Passion for the Tenor Saxophone

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit in early 2020, it sadly became evident that there wouldn't be much playing with other musicians in a live setting for some time.  This prompted me to spend more time on some solo work, particularly focussing on the tenor sax and loop pedal.  I usually use my tenor as the primary tool for writing for the Chris Jolly Group which is why a lot of the solo music I write with the loop pedal turns into music performed by the band.

Recently, I have started to write with the solo sound of the tenor in mind.  As soon as my local studio opened for Covid safe, socially distant recordings I went straight in to record blip and glitch.

My latest solo project is my biggest yet.  I have commissioned composers that have had a huge influence on my career to date and shaped me into the musician I am.  I am delighted to be working with Nigel Wood, Richard Ingham, Charlotte Harding and Paul Harris on this project who are all writing new solo tenor music for me to record and release on an album in early 2022.

I am looking forward to continuing to build on this repertoire over the coming months.  New releases will appear here and on YouTube.  The sheet music for all this music is available either through Samek Music or June Emerson.  If it is not yet available then please to get in touch and I'd be happy to send it.
